When We Are Closed
When the surgery is closed (Monday to Friday 18:00 – 08:00 the following morning, and 18:00 Friday evening to Monday morning 08:00), all urgent calls for the doctors are taken by NHS 24. When you call and speak to the receptionist, be prepared to describe how you feel or how the person seems and why you are worried. The GP/triage nurse will probably be able to tell how serious the problem is and in many cases can give advice and reassurance over the phone.
You may be asked to attend the out-of-hours centre at Glenrothes Hospital, 1 Lodge Rise, Forrester’s Lodge, Glenrothes, which stays open all night. Alternatively, the doctor may visit you at home.
In many situations, the doctor you see out-of-hours will not be your own doctor, but one you probably do not know. He or she will send notes of your consultation to your own doctor to be included in your medical records.
Please phone the surgery number (01592 611171) and listen to the message re the out-of-hours service.
Doctors from all practices in Glenrothes participate in the emergency service.

Further advice and information can also be obtained from NHS24, whom you can call direct or visit http://www.nhs24.com/.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
