Training Practice

Glenwood Medical Practice is an approved Training Practice.  This means that fully qualified Doctors that have been working in hospitals will be joining the Practice for periods of time in order to gain experience of General Practice.

Glenwood Medical Practice is privileged to be involved in the training of Doctors to become General Practitioners.  These Doctors are known as 'Specialist Trainees' and have time within the Practice during their first (ST1) and third (ST3) years of General Practice Training.

Patients may be asked to fill out a feedback form after seeing a Trainee.  You might be asked to give consent to have a consultation videoed.  There is no pressure to do either of these things if you are not comfortable.  

The treatment room nurse offers a wide range of treatments, including blood tests, blood pressure checks, dressings, ear syringing, removal of stitches, assisting the doctors during the surgical procedures.

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

The practice has one senior medical receptionist and seven medical receptionists. Our medical receptionists are trained to do a difficult and busy job, so please be patient if they cannot attend you straight away.  Please give them as much information as you can in order to help them help you.  Anything you tell them will be treated in absolute confidence.

There are three nurses attached to the practice and they are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care to people in the community.  They also carry out health checks for house bound patients.

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
